Green Thursday - Get Involved!
I may have already spoken with some of you about our upcoming experiment - now dubbed 'GREEN THURSDAY'. Here are some more details about what is involved and how to get involved. The aim is to show people how easy it is to make very healthful additions to their lifestyle that are enjoyable! We hope to reach and inspire not only our practice memebers but the wider population of Exeter with news of our project. Together we can help people make a real difference to their lives.
The experiment will begin on the Thursday the 18th March and run until Thursday the 15th April. All you will be required to do is drink a green smoothie every day for the duration. Each smoothie must contain at least 2 portions of green leafy vegetables and whatever else you like. I promise that when you add the fruit of your choice these smoothies are delicious. We will provide you with recipes to get you started and will be here to answer any questions and give you support along the way.
On Green Thursday - the 18th March, we will have an open morning at the practice where everyone who is taking part will need to drop in to have their blood pressure, heart rate, weight, pH of urine and blood glucose measured. We will also all be filling in questionnaires about mood, energy, sleep, food cravings etc. All of this will be repeated again at the end of the experiment and we hope to see some subjective and objective changes in people's physiology.
We are being supported by Violetta Cope a.k.a The Green Chef (www.thegreenchef.co.uk) and Rod and Ben's (www.rodandbens.com ). We hope to be able to offer a subsidised fruit and greens box that participants could collect from the practice each Thursday during the experiment.
If you would like to get involved or have any questions you can email me at rachaeldunn@countychiropractic.co.uk or call us on the usual numbers: Exeter 01392 208 496, Braunton 01271 814 067
I would love to think that if a group of people are willing to go for it we can get some great results!

Walking naturally
People often ask me why I spend so much time bare foot. It is much more natural for the biomechanics of the foot to land more gently and cautiosly on your feet. Our mid foot can become quite weak because when we walk or run with shoes on we strike hard on our heels and don't use the muscles of our mid foot very well which can lead to flat feet. Children need to learn to walk properly and innately - barefoot, take their shoes off at every available opportunity!
Apart from the biomechanics there is the pleasure of the extra sensory input, when you get used to the different sensations they all become enjoyable from soft grass, squelchy mud and even stones, and only a regular barefoot walker knows the joy in walking on painted road lines after a long walk on a hot stoney pavement! (and you thought I was a little bit crazy before?)
Try checking out this link for some great video footage and see why we should all spend more time barefoot

‘Eat for Life’
This week sees the second in Neil Cox' series of free health talks at St Lukes school Exeter. ‘Eat for Life’ will be held on Thursday, 4th February 2010 - 18:15-19:45.
The feed back from last months talk has been great and we have even more people booked in to this second talk. You need not have attended 'genetics, lifestyle and health' to benefit from 'eat for life' so all are welcome.
We hope to see you there this Thursday
