Exceptional Birthday Party Floatation Special Offer

For those attanding our 10th anniversary party on 26th November (10am til 4pm) there will be an unbelievable special offer for the floatation room.

Floatation is not a superficial relaxation therapy. The science behind how your body and mind respond to floating is serious and incredible. It is very very good for you and we feel it completes the 'think well' part of our 'eat well, move well, think well' approach to gaining and maintaining health and wellbeing. If you have limited time for meditation or find meditation difficult, it is a must.

For more information, a sneak look at the floatation suite and to find out about this very special offer you are welcome to join us at our 10th anniversary birthday party at our Exeter practice on Saturday the 26th November between 10am and 4pm. Drop in anytime.

We look forward to seeing everyone then!

New Floataion room at County Chiropractic

Exciting news - The new floatation room is now being installed at the clinic in Exeter.

Floatation offers the deepest relaxation known to mankind.

With tranquil blue under water lighting and twinkling star lights in the 2m high ceiling you can't help but lay back and relax in the bath like floatation room. Soaking up the super-saturated Epsom-salt solution creates an environment similar to that of the Dead Sea, letting you float effortlessly.

Being completely free from the forces of gravity every single muscle in the body is allowed to totally relax. As you are relieved from aches, pains and stresses of everyday life a feeling of well being takes over.

Are you living whole heartedly?

At times it can be especially difficult to engage with life, let alone live life wholeheartedly. In the dark times all we want to do is hide or escape and hope that when we dare to peak out from beneath the duvet that things have changed and we can feel happiness again.

How to set yourself health goals

Written by Polly Jeans personal trainer at County Chiropractic.

Setting individual health goals can be a positive way to ensure you reach where you wish to be towards gaining optimum health.

When setting goals with my clients current and new I often find that the goals they are setting themselves are often to high and possibly unrealistic to achieve. A realistic goal takes into consideration the aspects of life that do take up our daily time and are part of our daily lifestyle; work commitments, family commitments, social commitments, pet commitments. As much as I am inspired by the initial goals they wish to set; my role is to set smaller step-by-step goals to lead up to the ultimate goal and to continue this pattern.

Do you ever write a list of things to do and then reach the end of the day only to find you are only half way down the list? Instead of feeling pleased for achieving half of your list it is more likely that you will be feeling frustrated for not completing the list. Perhaps you set yourself to many things in one day? You also need to consider any unpredicted disturbances i.e. phone ringing, neighbours calling round, urgent request at work, the dog needs walking…. life can get in the way.

Goals are more likely to be achieved if they are realistic to your lifestyle. The main factor of this is time and relevant guidance. For example if your goal is to lose 1 stone to take you to your ideal weight in 3 weeks you will be placing a high demand and pressure on yourself and your body and other important areas in your life. You may feel tired and stressed after 2 weeks or you may reach your goal after 3 weeks and then struggle to maintain the weight loss. The 3-week weight loss may not necessarily allow you time to understand the changes in your body and for you to understand the positive sides of the weight loss. Think about how long it has taken to gain the stone it is likely that it is longer than a 3-week period. Make sure you remain realistic with yourself as well as motivated or you may set yourself up for disappointment or feelings of failure.

As a society we are bombarded with quick fix diets and celebrity images of dramatic weight losses. These are not realistic representations of our everyday lives.

The same goes for exercise and fitness goals. If you have watched the London Marathon or Tour de France on the television and been inspired to start running or cycling after a few months or years of not moving you need to set yourself step by step goals to reach the end goal. The people you see running the London Marathon has spent months training to get to the actual marathon.

The correct knowledge, time management and patience will take you to achieving goal after goal after goal. As the saying goes we need to walk before we can run and enjoy the journey.

What has chiropractic got to do with anything? Everything!

How you relate to the world around you depends entirely on how your senses perceive your environment (internally and externally) and how your brain interprets that perceived information.  How does the sensory information get to your brain? it is picked up (sensed) and travels to your brain via the nerves and spinal cord.  Really your nervous system could also be called your sensory system.  Your internal and external environment are constantly being monitored and altered thanks to the wonder of your brain and nervous system - Is it time you got yours checked by a chiropractor?  Chiropractic is so much ore than back pain!!!

Addicted to busyness

Busy, busy, busy… it seems to be the modern mantra. Ever find yourself running around, breathless, feeling overwhelmed and fearful of what might happen if you fail to achieve everything on your list?

We all become caught up in the busyness of life, but it can easily become an addiction. Enjoying the high of achieving all the tasks on your list and then lurching to the next task without stopping to pause. Before long, it becomes a habit and we feel the need to always be busy and continuously add to our schedules....

Understanding the meaning and importance of Exercise

Most of us are aware that it is important that we look after our bodies and ensure we are active and fit. However, the majority of us struggle to priorities exercise always putting it off until the next day and the next and the next.

Exercise doesn’t need to be hours in the gym pumping iron or pounding the treadmill. Exercise can be incorporated into your daily life and still improve your health and well being.

The human body has evolved to be naturally active and to be physically challenged on a daily basis. Our ancestors spent most of there daily lives running, walking, sprinting, climbing, chopping, lifting, dancing … they needed to be doing this to ensure survival and reproduction could take place.

Western society has come along way since our hunter-gatherer ancestors however our physiological make up has not. We still have the same skeleton, muscles, heart, lungs and brain however we are no longer challenging our body, as we do not have the survival need to do so. Instead we have cars, the Internet, video games, online shopping, takeaway deliveries, mobile phones which combined each take care of our daily survival requirements.

As much as modern technology has its huge advantages it is having a devastating impact on our mind and bodies.

Here are just a few of the modern day side effects:

• Childhood obesity is now occurring as young as the age of 2

• UK is now the fattest nation in Europe

• Increase in diabetes which is now affecting children

• Increase in certain cancers

• Increase in stress and depression

• Increase in cardiovascular illness, stroke, heart disease, hypertension

It is clear that our bodies do not know how to cope with inactivity, which is one of the risk factors of the above.

30 minutes of exercise a day will improve your lifelong health in many areas. Here are just a few key benefits:

• Maintained weight management

• Better quality sleep

• Improved mood and energy

• Increased metabolism

• Improved strength for day to day activities

• Reduced risk of heart disease

• Improved hormone activity

• Reduced risk of certain cancers

• Improved skin, hair and nails

And the list could continue. The above benefits far outweigh the risk factors and are surely worth 30 minutes of our daily time.

30 minutes of our time

There are 168 hours within our 7-day week. 30 minutes 5 days a week = 2.5 hours which accounts to 4% of your time. Are you sure you don’t have time?

30 minutes 5-7 days a week could include some of the following activities:

• Walk to the shops and back rather than drive

• Cycling with children rather than driving to the cinema

• Attending a local fitness class

• Taking the stairs rather than lift

• Going for a lunchtime walk rather than sitting at your desk

• Gardening

• Walking the dog

A small adjustment to your daily life can have huge health benefits to you and your family’s lifelong health.

Go on get moving, I promise you will enjoy it and feel very proud.
